How many ATC Zero events have we had because too many controllers were sick? How about we get them all prioritized for the vaccines asap?
The problem is not the mask. It’s the limited staffing a many facilities due to the virus that’s causing most problems. We’ve been running under 70% for over a year without the ability to call in OT.
I’d like sympathize, but at the moment I’m busy diverting flights from suddenly ATC-zero airspace.

Maybe a mask could help keep a center or tower open, but then again I did just fine with no ATC in midway and Las Vegas and Indy center, and Jax center, and wash center....

Even if it causes just one poor read back shouldn’t that prevent us from being able to do it? How many other rules do we have that are caused by one incident or the possibility of an incident? What happens if an aircraft lines up on a taxi way instead of the runway (Air Canada) and the control tries to tell the aircraft to go around but the aircraft doesn’t understand the call and lands on waiting planes? Stupid idea that I’ve come to expect from him

About 90% of controllers today would have washed out in 1970 when I hired in.
If they actually enforce the rules...... Haven't seen it yet.
Happened a few weeks back to me wearing a mask: Me: "AmericanXXX reset transponder squawk 2-1-4-3, twenty one fourty three" AALXXX: "AmericanXXX roger out of FL290 for FL210" Me: "AMERICANXXX NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE, Maintain FL290, SQUAWK 2143" Never had a squawk code be misheard as a different clearance.
Because wearing a mask is more important than 2 airliners hitting. 🙄
I’ve never had a single read back error due to a mask.
